Ed Owens – IB coordinator

Located in the heart of Normandy, École des Roches offers a comprehensive education that nurtures students academically, socially and emotionally.
We offer a holistic education which, in line with the IB’s mission, aims to develop inquisitive, knowledgeable and caring young people.
Becoming an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School in 2016, it has since strengthened its Diploma Programme (DP), offering a comprehensive educational experience that fosters reflection, innovative learning and deep intercultural awareness.

Our major assets

A school of excellence, École des Roches offers personalised support thanks to its small classes, varied options and innovative teaching methods, enabling each student to develop to the full.

Educational programme

In addition to the six subjects chosen, each IBDP student must take three core components, specifically designed to develop critical thinking, research and writing skills, as well as an understanding of the world as it exists today.

The brief

A 4,000-word research paper based on a personal problem, which prepares students for the type of projects undertaken at university.

The theory of knowledge

Encourages students to ask themselves: “How do we know what we know?”. This course enables students to develop their critical thinking skills.

CAS

In CAS (Creativity, Activity and Service), students take part in a wide variety of extra-curricular, community service and sporting activities.

Typical day

The iB prepares students for university life by developing their talents and skills. Supervised by Heads of House, who act as ‘surrogate parents’, they benefit from a caring and secure environment. These adults look after their well-being, their academic success and their day-to-day needs, in liaison with their parents and the school services.
