Access map By car - from Paris |
- On the « périphérique » (ring road), follow the direction ROUEN - AUTOROUTE A13 (motorway).
- After PORTE DAUTEUIL, turn right and follow the side road ROUEN. You should reach the SAINT CLOUD tunnel.
- After the ROCQUENCOURT interchange, choose the right side road : SAINT QUENTIN EN YVELINES, DREUX, RAMBOUILLET. You should enter AUTOROUTE A12 (motorway). Follow the side road towards N12 - DREUX. After a while, VERNEUIL SUR AVRE is clearly indicated.
- Take this road (N 12) & continue on the same way as far as you reach the end of VERNEUIL. (Don't come inside the town).
- When arriving in VERNEUIL SUR AVRE, follow N12 until you reach the supermarket « Intermarché » (roundabout). Turn right until you reach a second roundabout. Turn left towards N26 - L'AIGLE/FLERS. The campus is on your right, approximately two kilometers after the last houses.

Visa
If you do not have the EU nationality, you must ask the French consulate (in your country) to issue a visa.
- 3 months before your date of departure, if it is a short stay visa (three months),
- From May to mid-june (the latest) if it is a long stay multi entry visa.

- A school certificate (with details on the programme to be followed).
- A binding invitation which attests that you accept the legal authority (parental rights) and responsibilities of the school (including insurance, board and lodging). The invitation also states that the school fees have been paid.

Living in a boarding school
- Arrival :
House masters and captains will be really glad to welcome you within our campus. They will introduce themselves and your foreign counterparts, they will show you the campus and your house and they will help you to settle in.
- Accommodation :
Unlike other schools, The "Rocheux" are divided within houses according to their age and sex. The Ecole des Roches insists on creating a home-like atmosphere within spacious houses accommodating 20 to 45 teenagers each.Working areas, supervised study areas, a television room, a meeting room, a kitchen to prepare snacks, a library, telephone booths and one or two computers connected to the internet…all these elements illustrate the relaxing and stimulating environment which distinguishes our houses. Conviviality is our motto (bedrooms with 2 to 6 beds).

- Meals :
Our self-service restaurant carefully prepares well-balanced and abundant meals. Each house has its own room where students have breakfast, lunch and dinner with their friends, house-masters and captains.
- Our community rules :
When entering the Ecole des Roches, students commit themselves by accepting our community rules. Our community rules insist on our essential traditional values such as : friendliness, work, tolerance, politeness, sharing and respect. These community rules have been defined and written by students themselves !!! Hygiene, punctuality, coeducation, environmental issues, security and suitable clothing are also mentioned, along with unacceptable attitudes (drugs, alcohol, violence, theft, use of weapons…). - Week-ends :
- During school week-ends (once every fortnight), on saturday afternoons, students have the opportunity to visit Verneuil sur Avre (10000 inhabitants). On Sundays, Sports and cultural activities are organised.
- During week-ends out of school, trips are organised on saturdays, for example : Caen, Rouen, Chartres, Evreux, Paris, Versailles, Le Mans… for shopping, exhibitions, cinema, restaurant…

- Linen and laundry :
Clothes must be marked (indelible pens) with students surnames and first names or with the laundry number, which will be given to parents. Clothes are ususally washed and ironed within three days.
- Health :
The school doctor is available everyday. Moreover, the hospital in Verneuil sur Avre also deals with emergencies.
- Keeping in touch :
Students can call their parents and family from their house thanks to a personal card. The following schedule must be respected : from 1.30pm to 2.00pm, from 4.15pm to 4.45pm, 7.45pm to 8.30pm and for older students, from 9.45pm to 10.15pm. Parents and families can also reach students in their houses.
Mobile phones are forbidden except during week-ends and on wednesday night.
Students can also send/receive emails with the computers connected to the Internet, in their houses.
- Clothes :
For students who wish to stay with us for the whole year, it is highly recommended to bring winter (average temperature 0° to +10°), mid-season (10° to 20°) and Summer (up to 30°) Clothes. - School uniform :
The school uniform is compulsory for stays longer than a term (4 months). It must be worn on Fridays,when students leave for the weekend and when they return. Furthermore, along the year, official and traditional ceremonies and receptions are organised (six times a year). On these occasions, students must wear the school uniform. The basic uniform is supplied by the school The other items (if the pupil doesn't’ have them at his disposal) can be bought anywhere else.

More Recommendations
- The school uniform is compulsory for stays > 1 term (4 months ). Students must wear the school uniform :
- when asked to do so by the pedagogical team
- when coming in or going out of the school (whichever means of transport may be used : train, bus or parents' car)
- On Fridays, students must wear the school uniform (until 5 pm - bus departure)
- For hygienic reasons, trainers must not be used for other purposes than sport classes. They are strictly forbidden within the "batiment des classes"
(classrooms).
- All clothes, suitable for driers & washable in machine, must be marked.

ARE STRICTLY FORBIDDEN
- Clothes
In any circumstances, students must comply with our clothing rules and the pedagogical team will ban any unsuitable clothes. See enclosed document "Official clothes 2004-2005".
- Time and punctuality
Lateness will not be accepted. This applies to lectures, seminars, sports classes or workshops.
- Students departure and arrival dates : are provided in the school calendar. They must be respected.
- Early departures or late arrivals are not acceptable (in any circumstances : train, plane tickets...etc)
The parents must book plane or train tickets several months in advance. Early departures or late arrivals discourage the students' efforts and seriousness. That is why, the parents must strictly comply with the pre-determined schedule. In case of constant absence, students may be excluded from the school.
- If for any reason, the students return late to school (Sunday night or holiday break) or arrive late for a lecture/seminar/sports class/workshop..., the House Masters must be informed beforehand. A written proof must also be provided (medical proof, notification, invitation...).
Late or absent students will not be accepted within the school without a written justification note from their parents or tutors.
- Departure from and return to the school : if the "transport" option has been chosen (see costs table), the school bus must be used for departure from and return to the school (see our brochure for more details on the pre-determined school bus stops). Otherwise, students may choose any other means of transport (car, train,...etc) but the House Masters must be informed beforehand with a written authorisation from parents or tutors. If the students choose trains, they must not stop anywhere else on their way to the school (for returns) or on their way to the station (for departures).
- If any of these rules are not respected, students will receive an official warning before a potential exclusion.

The House Masters' and parents' authorisation
The Students' behaviour and seriousness
As far as 6ème and 5ème are concerned, visits to Verneuil sur Avre are strictly supervised by the House Masters.
- Leaving the school : For exceptional days-out : the pedagogical team must be informed beforehand, by fax or email.
At week-ends: the pedagogical team must also be informed beforehand, by fax or email, especially if the students have been invited by host families. In that case, a written document must be provided not only by the parents and tutors but also by the host family who confirms the invitation.
- Academic life
- Bags must be properly packed for both morning and afternoon activities.
Students are not allowed to return to their house during the day.
- Non-respect of assignments submission dates : when students do not respect deadlines, assignments will be completed on Wednesday afternoons or Saturday mornings.
- The school diaries are extremely important tools to encourage communication between the Teachers, the House Masters and the parents. Students must bring their diaries with them all the time. They are responsible for damages that may occur, even if the diaries belong to the school.
- Students are not allowed to return to their house during the day although exceptional permission may be granted from the Educational Advisers (C.P.E. Conseiller Principal d'Education).
- If for any reason, students do not turn up on time for a lecture/seminar/sports class/workshop, they must provide the Educational Advisers with written justification notes. When the parents plan their son/daughter's absence in advance, the Educational Advisers must be informed beforehand.
- The students who turn up late for a lecture/seminar/sports class/workshop will not be accepted without a written justification note.
- House life
- The schedules for supervised study periods, meals and bedtime must be strictly respected.
- The students cannot wander around the campus. If they need to go somewhere within the campus, they have to get permission from the House Masters, who will report the student destination on the absence book.
- Return to the house : as previously explained, students are not allowed to return to their house during the day. However, in the near future older students (Terminales) may be able to do so during the third semester as long as permission is granted from the House Masters and from the Educational Advisers.
- All the meals are compulsory, absence will not be accepted.
- All the meals are taken with the House Master. The students may eat with other house members but only once a week and after obtaining the House Masters' authorisation. The students can also go to the host house for coffee, after the meal, but they must leave no later than 15 minutes before the afternoon re-start.
- Evening register call is compulsory. After registration, students cannot leave the house unless the House Masters agree. If they do so, the students absence will be detailed on the absence book.
- Small radios and Hi-fi appliances are permitted in the bedrooms. They must not be used during supervised study periods or out of the house.
- Mobile tape, CD, or MP3 players are tolerated in rooms and houses. However, they must not be used during supervised study periods or out of the house, during the day. Otherwise, it may be confiscated.
- Phone calls: the students are allowed to receive external phone calls except during the supervised study periods. Phone calls between houses are not allowed.
- Mobile phones, pagers...etc are strictly forbidden during the week.
They must be given to the House Master on Sunday nights when coming back to the school after the week-end.
Students are allowed to use their mobile phones, pagers ...etc on Wednesdays after the evening register call.
If students hide other mobile phones, they will be confiscated all year long.
If students lend their mobile phones, pagers...etc or lose them, the school is absolutely not responsible.
- Linen and Laundry : clothes must be marked (indelible pens) with students surnames and first names or with the laundry number, which will be given to the parents. The clothes which are not marked will not be washed.
- Pocket money, valuables and official documents must be given to the House Master or to the accounting department for safety. Keeping valuable objects within the school is not recommended. The school refuses to accept responsibility for the loss or theft of valuable items. That is why this rule must be strictly respected.
- Coeducation
No immoral or intimate behaviour between boys and girls is tolerated.
The pedagogical team will immediately punish the students who would not respect this rule, with temporary or definitive exclusion.
- Hierarchy and responsibility
The students are under the responsibility of :
- The House Masters, Teachers, Supervisors (exam, workshops, studies...), Instructors and Educational Advisers.
- The Captains make sure community rules are respected. The students must take into account their authority, decisions and advise, in all circumstances (that is to say inside and outside the school - especially in the school bus.)
- The environment
Nature is essential within the Ecole des Roches. That is why, it must be respected and protected from vandalism. Bins are provided outside to collect rubbish. Any damage to school property or nature must be paid for and the students will be punished accordingly.
- The ECOLE DES ROCHES educational grading
It has been created by the Captains and the students themselves to encourage efforts and seriousness.
Each student is given a credit of 20 points every term (Lycée - older students) or when returning to school after mid-term holiday (Collège - younger students).
The students lose or gain points depending on their progress, accomplishments, results, initiatives and behaviour. If they lose up to 20 points, they must gain them back on Saturdays doing extra work, assignments or collective tasks. The number of points they may lose or gain will influence their chance to become a Captain.
- Health and hygiene
- The school doctor is available everyday. Visits must be reported to the House Master.
- For hygienic reasons, daily showers are compulsory.
- Any pharmaceutical products or medicines, not prescribed by the school doctor, must be declared to the House Master, before use. The detention of any of these products is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN. For security reasons, piercing (visible or not) is strictly forbidden. The pedagogical team will immediately punish the students who would not respect this rule, with temporary or definitive exclusion.
- Security
- When travelling to the small campus (houses : Guiche, Moulin, Iton, Fougères) or to the riding school, the students must take the school bus or must, at all time, be with an adult.
- Karting, roller blade, bike...: helmets are compulsory.
- The use of weapons, replica weapons or toy weapons (laser beam...) is strictly forbidden.
- Smoking
- In accordance with the decree issued on November the 15 th 2006

- within all the French schools for everybody (pupils & adults), everywhere (inside & outside)
- The pedagogical team will immediately punish students who would not respect this rule, with manual work, temporary or definitive exclusion.

- Drugs
Introducing, diffusing, consuming alcohol or drugs within the school is strictly forbidden. It will lead to definitive exclusion and the school may lodge a complaint against the students.
