ARRIVAL The Sunday, you shall arrive : E With your parents direct to the School. As soon as you arrive at the School, ask for Madame COLLOMB. You can also reach her by mobile phone on : 06 09 94 05 40 E At the airport : after you have recovered your luggage, find the teacher who is there to welcome you. He or she will be carrying a sign “ECOLE DES ROCHES”. He or she will tell you what to do with your luggage and you might have to wait into the bus, with this teacher because the school is 120km far from the airport and the coaches leave every 30 minutes. But, whilst you wait, you can have a drink and a snack, if you have not done so on the plane, as there are many cafés at the airport. When you are on the coach, the teacher will ask you if you are beginner or not. He or she will also tell you the name of your “House”. When you arrive at school, the coach will drop you off in front of your house. The housemasters / mistress will welcome you and show you your bedroom. The following morning, Monday, you will sit some tests (except if you are a beginner). These tests are not examinations, they are just to establish your level and so put you into appropriate groups. During the afternoon, the teachers will correct the tests and during the afternoon snack you will see, posted on the windows of the theatre, the lists of students with the name of their teacher and classroom where you will have lessons. The lessons begin that Monday Afternoon. | | ALCOHOL & DRUGS Alcohol (including beer) and all forms of drugs (soft and hard) are totally and formally forbidden during the course. In any cases of consumption of drugs, we will inform parents and accompany you immediately to the airport. You will find us extremely strict on this subject. | | CLOTHING You will need to bring plenty of clothes, just like for a holiday – pullover, t-shirts, trousers, sports clothes, shoes, towels, etc… Do not forget clothes for both wet and hot weather because FRANCE is a country with a varied climate. WARNING ! You can not bring fragile clothing. Your clothes must be washable in washing machine + tumble dryer. Make sure you label all clothing with you name.You should bring above all, comfortable clothing, also some elegant clothing for the Saturday disco. | | DEPOSIT When you’ll arrive at school, you’ll give your pocket money to your House master and a deposit of 150 euros (or the equivalent) except if your parents have already paid it. This deposit will cover :- your possible medical expenses : doctor, pharmacy,…- the damage you might cause or the cost of your repatriation in case unacceptable behaviour such as theft, drug or alcohol consumption, into the school or out of the school. This sum will then be returned to you after the end of your courses | | DOCTOR We remind you that, before leaving home, you must make sure you have a medical insurance, or if you are from European Union, make sure that you have the correct documents for eventual reimbursement. If you feel sick, you have to tell your house master who will arrange an appointment with the doctor . Take note, even if you have medical insurance, you will need to pay the doctor. Thenk you'll be reimbursed when you will return home. Several insurance companies oblige their clients to telephone them before seeing the doctor. If this is your case, please inform your house masters in advance. | | EXCURSIONS For a 3 week courses, we have planned 8 days of excursions which will enable you to get to know FRANCE and all its different facets. Sites of interest such as Paris, Versailles, Deauville, Chambord... Trips : Rouen, Le Mans, le Mont Saint Michel...
You can also choose to spend a day in DISNEYLAND PARIS. This is the only trip for which you have to pay extra (50 €). All the trips are prepared during lessons therefore you will know in advance what you are going to see and visit. Moreover, you'll find information about the trips into your house on the notice board. | | EXPULSION The thefts into the shops, at school, the consumption of drugs or alcohol, the lack of respect towards the adults, any kind of violence (physical or in the language) are real causes of an immediate and indisputable expulsion. | | FOOD AND DRINK We don’t eat the same food in FRANCE as in your country. If you want to fully understand a country, you must east as its inhabitants. Try the dishes we offer, you will like some of them and dislike others. For each meal, there will be a choice of cold starters, meat and vegetables, followed by cheese, yoghurt, fruit and dessert. In FRANCE, the tub waters is drinkable. You can drink it or use it to dilute fruit drinks. If you are used to other drinks, you can buy on Campus cans of Coke or Liptonic, fruit juices, etc… There is also a boutique where you can buy ice-creams, drinks, sweets, snacks, telephone cards, etc… | | FRENCH LESSONS The teachers have been chosen for their experience and dynamism. They will offer lively, stimulating lessons following a pedagogical programme so that in 3 weeks you will be able to move up to a superior level. This is why we expect you to abide by certain rules in the classroom : you must be dressed appropriately and will not tolerate a disruptive attitude in class. Everybody has the right to express themselves but calmly and correctly. You must always be on time and attend every classes. During the lessons, you must not use your mother tongue with the other students. You are expected to speak French only. During the lessons, you are not allowed to bring your cellular phone. If it rings, we'll take it and keep it until the end of your stay. You must always bring with you your equipment for working (pens, scissors, glue, eraser) a large notebook. We will lend you the method and you can keep the exercise book we give you. At the end of the course, you will receive a report and certificate. | | PERMISSION TO GO OUT OF THE CAMPUS If you wish to visit the local town, your parents have to send the written permission directly to Mrs Collomb.. In addition, even when Ms Collomb will insert your name into the authorization list, before leaving the site, you must is responsible for you during the course. When you’ll go out of the campus, you’ll have to respect the rules regarding the consumption of alcohol or drug and regarding the theft and we expect you to return on time. Available for students aged over 12 y.o only.
If you plan to go to Paris (out of our programme) or visit friends, you can only do this at week-ends only Moreover, we expect a written permission from your parents + a written confirmation from the friends who will host you. For reasons of security, we do not accept Emails for this authorisation. We take these precautions for your safety. In fact, we consider that your parents have placed their confidence in Ecole des Roches and we must respect that confidence and do everything in our power to avoid any problems during the course. Available for students aged over 16 y.o only. | | SMOKING In France, you are not allowed to smoke into the Schools Campus. | | SPORTS Tennis courts, Football pitch, Basketball courts, Volleyball and Badminton courts, Summer swimming pool, Equestrian centre, Table Tennis, Danse, Gymnasium and many spaces for activities supervised and coached by teachers and house-masters.
| | TCF (Test of Knowledge in French) is a test recognized in all countries that evaluates officially the level in French. The Ministry of Education delivers an attestation of level in French which, depending on the results, will be taken into consideration during the registration in some schools in France. L’Ecole des Roches, as a registered examination centre organizes a session during summer trainings. The students, aged over 14 years old, willing to take the TCF will be prepared for the exams in class. | | TELEPHONE AND POST In Every Houses, there are 1or 2 phone cabins at your disposal. Your programme is but, as every day is full, it is often difficult to reach somebody. So, on campus, there are Telephone cabins that you can use to call parents or friends with phone cards (available from at the boutique) You can also bring your mobile phone which you can use anytime except during lessons. (If your phone rings or vibrates one time during lessons it will be confiscated until the end of your course). | | THEFT Sometimes, we have been informed that a student has stolen (into the campus or in the stores during excursions). If this would happen, we would organise the immediate repatriation in your family. | |
