In 1899, the Ecole des Roches was one of the first schools which put into relief the duality between intellectual development and physical activities by introducing team-orientated sports in France. It included : Basket ball, Handball, Volleyball and football. British teachers even came to visit us and to share their expertise by teaching generations of our students the intricacies of the authentic British rugby.
The first academic swimming pool was inaugurated within our school in 1912. Comte Jean de Beaumont, President of the French Olympic committee, who had previously studied within Ecole des Roches, gave the school the chance to modernise its sports substructures through its patronage.
On that account, intense sports practice has always been our motto : 20 sports are available within our campus ! Efforts, team-spirit, competitiveness, endurance, excellence, self-confidence... so many qualities that characterise leaders-to-be !
The campus exceptional substructures give students the opportunity to practice their favourite sports in optimal conditions. It includes :
- 4 weekly hours of sports (EPS – Education Physique et Sportive – included in students' timetables)
- Nationally-recognised competitions (Union Nationale des Sports Scolaires)
- Horse-riding competitions (during week-ends)
- Pratice and training after 4 pm
- Competition between different houses
- “Fête du sport” (day dedicated to our different sportive options - celebration and shows)
In a nutshell, for the most enthusiastic students, 8 hours (or more) of sports per week.
Each year, Ecole des Roches is one of the three best schools in Normandy, regarding sports competitions. For 10 years, our students have obtained the best results for the Baccalauréat in sports.
